FAICP Statement
Bruce Knight has spent his career advancing the cause of planning to citizens, planning officials, and his professional peers. Because of his thoughtful, outspoken leadership and clear consistent advocacy for his profession, Bruce has helped his community and his professional organization achieve their highest potential. Inducted 2003.
Professional Biography
Bruce Knight has served as Planning and Development Director of Champaign, Illinois for 36 years. Before coming to Champaign he worked in Liberty, Missouri, Iowa City, Iowa, and at the Mid-Iowa Development Association Council of Governments in Fort Dodge Iowa. Knight became a certified planner in 1985 and was elected to the AICP College of Fellows in 2003. Knight served as President of the American Planning Association from 2009-2012. He also served two terms on the APA Board of Directors from 2000-2008 and two terms as APA Illinois Chapter President from 1997 to 1999. Knight also served as the Chair of the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB).
