Glenn Larson has dedicated his career to improving Virginia communities and enhancing the integrity, value, and strength of the planning profession. During his 38 years as a public sector planner, and throughout his 32 years of leadership service to the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners, Glenn’s achievements are defined by commitment, collaboration, and resilience. As AICP Commissioner and AICP President, he successfully championed initiatives that significantly advanced APA’s professional core competencies, diversity and equity awareness, ethical principles, and volunteerism, ensuring the planning profession remains relevant to the constantly evolving needs of American communities.
Professional Biography
Glenn Larson, FICP, is a retired planner with more than 38 years of comprehensive planning and management experience in a variety of communities in Virginia and South Carolina. He served as Assistant Director of the Chesterfield County, Virginia Planning Department from 1991 to 2015. Glenn’s first planning job was in 1977 with the Catawba Regional Planning Council in Rock Hill, South Carolina. From 1979 to 1991 he was a planner with the Charlottesville, Virginia Department of Community Development. Glenn is a charter member of AICP, the professional institute of the American Planning Association. Glenn served as AICP President from 2017 through 2018, and as AICP Commissioner from Region II between 2012 and 2015. He is a former co-chair of the AICP Exam Committee. Prior to his service on the AICP Commission, he served on the APA Virginia Chapter Board of Directors for 23 years, including as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Professional Development Officer. Glenn has a BA degree from Miami University and a Master of City and Regional Planning degree from the Ohio State University. He and his wife Sue live in Richmond, Virginia.
