ToP Facilitation Methods TrainingInstitute of Cultural Affairs - USAWasington, DC Technology of Participation (ToP) Facilitation Methods training helps groups think, talk and work together. It provides group facilitators with structured methods that allow a group to deal with more data in less time while incorporating the contributions of all. ToP methods enable integrated thinking and they help minimize polarization and conflict.
This training teaches the foundational values of: Inclusive Participation, Teamwork and Collaboration, Individual and Group Creativity, Action and Ownership, and Reflection and Learning. ToP methods use innovative approaches that have been extensively researched and field tested. These methods are supported by practical results that have proven sustainable over time, giving participants renewed confidence in their capability to support participative approaches and strategies in their organization.

Human Ecologist, Facilitator, Trainer and Process Designer
Ms. Stover is dedicated to promoting human-ecological relationships in order to create a sustainable culture. Her integrative work includes designing collaborative processes that combine the arenas of ecological intelligence, design aptitude and community participation or “greenscheming”.
Ms. Stover holds a B.S. from Purdue University and a M.S. in Human Ecology (magna cum laude) from Vrije Univrsiteit Brussels, Brussels, Belgium. She has also done post graduate study in Ecological Design at North Carolina State University.
Over the past 30 years Ms. Stover has lived and worked in four countries outside of the U.S.: Australia, India, Egypt and Belgium where she worked with the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA) to develop the Technology of Participation (ToP®) group facilitation methodology. Since 1992 she has focused her work primarily in North Carolina, working with allied professionals to facilitate integrated thinking, co-planning and design processes or greenscheming. She is a certified trainer and trainer of trainers in the Technologies of Participation (ToP®) and a founding member of the International Association of Facilitators. She is also a member of the American Planning Association.
Mayme Bledsoe Mayme F. Webb-Bledsoe
As a staff member of Duke University’s Office of Community Affairs, Mayme Webb-Bledsoe, a veteran in Durham’s grassroots neighborhood revitalization efforts currently plans and implements strategies for the Quality of Life Project through an “ Empowerment Model”. She is a ToP qualified trainer and she provides support and technical assistance to community partners, nonprofit organizations, local government, civic groups and the private sector through the Quality of Life Project targeting six Southwest Central Durham Neighborhoods. Mayme holds a B. A. in Psychology from University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Master of Science in Higher Education from Iowa State University with a concentration in Organizational Development. Duke University’s Cook Society honored her outstanding services as the recipient of the Community Betterment Award.
