ToP Facilitation Methods TrainingInstitute of Cultural Affairs - USABeaverton, OR Technology of Participation (ToP) Facilitation Methods training helps groups think, talk and work together. It provides group facilitators with structured methods that allow a group to deal with more data in less time while incorporating the contributions of all. ToP methods enable integrated thinking and they help minimize polarization and conflict.
This training teaches the foundational values of: Inclusive Participation, Teamwork and Collaboration, Individual and Group Creativity, Action and Ownership, and Reflection and Learning. ToP methods use innovative approaches that have been extensively researched and field tested. These methods are supported by practical results that have proven sustainable over time, giving participants renewed confidence in their capability to support participative approaches and strategies in their organization.

Founder of a facilitation and training company, North Star Facilitators since 1995, specializes in strategic planning, large and small group facilitation processes, training, and consulting. Barbara strong interpersonal communication skills and experience allow her to work skilfully with a wide variety of participant perspectives. Barbara specializes in helping groups participate, problem-solve, plan and make progress in challenging and complex situations. She has an energetic, respectful style and clear delivery. Barbara has worked with 100’s of clients from all sectors. Barbara has over 25 years experience as a business owner, socio-economic consultant, federal government program manager, adult educator; all of these positions resulted in extensive consulting, facilitation, training and speaking in a wide variety of disciplines. Barbara currently co-teaches a four credit graduate course in facilitation skills as an adjunct professor with the University of Oregon (Conflict and Dispute Resolution Studies), is a certified facilitator and USA trainer with the International Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA and Canada), a Certified Professional Facilitator (CPF©) and assessor of other facilitators with the International Association of Facilitators (IAF) and was in charge of coordinating the professional development and certification program for the IAF for four years.
