Off-Road Facilities: Shared Use Path Design (AASHTO Bike Guide Webinar 5 of 7)Highway Safety Research CenterChapel Hill, NC Free event The American Association of State Highway Transportation Official’s (AASHTO) Guide for the Development of Bicycle Facilities serves as a key resource for creating and designing bicycle facilities in the U.S.
The Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center and Toole Design Group are offering a free, seven-part webinar series on the updated AAHSTO Bike Guide, which was released in June 2012.
The fifth webinar in this series will discuss shared use path design and focus on topic areas that have been significantly expanded, including design speed, slope and gradient (including proposed ADAAG guidance on shared use paths), structures, stopping sight distance, and side path design. Pavement markings and signs will also be discussed.

More Instructors: Eric Mongelli Eric Mongelli (Director of Engineering, Toole Design Group) is a Professional Engineer with extensive experience and a broad transportation engineering background.
Eric is an extremely thorough project manager with experience managing large, multi-disciplined teams and taking projects through their full evolution including planning, environmental analysis, design, right-of-way and construction. Eric's diverse experience includes pedestrian and bicycle planning and design of roadways, streetscapes, and interstate highways, specification writing and construction administration. When not at Toole Design Group, Eric spends time with his wife and three young children. Tom Huber Tom Huber (Senior Planner, Toole Design Group) is the Director of our Madison, WI office. Prior to joining TDG, he was the Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator for Wisconsin DOT (WisDOT) for nearly 20 years. Tom accomplished a great deal during his tenure with WisDOT, including award-winning State Bicycle and Pedestrian Plans, design manuals, and workforce training to create a culture within the department that supports bicycling and walking. Tom has been very active on the national level, serving as a leader among State Coordinators on a wide variety of issues, as well as hosting the Coordinators' annual meeting in Madison twice. He has served on a dozen state and federal research projects and has written four research proposals. Tom is one of the founding members of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals.
