Bicycle Facility Maintenance and Operations (AASHTO Bike Guide Webinar 7 of 7)Highway Safety Research CenterChapel Hill, NC Free event The American Association of State Highway Transportation Official’s (AASHTO) Guide for the Development of Bicycle Facilities serves as a key resource for creating and designing bicycle facilities in the U.S.
The Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center and Toole Design Group are offering a free, seven-part webinar series on the updated AAHSTO Bike Guide, which was released in June 2012.
The seventh and final webinar in this series will 7 will discuss recommended maintenance programs and activities. Topics covered will include sweeping, snow clearance, surface repairs, traffic signal detectors, and signs and markings. The operation of bicycle facilities in work zones will also be discussed.

More Instructors: Peter Lagerwey Heading up the firm's presence in the Northwest is Peter Lagerwey (Senior Planner, Toole Design Group) with over 25 years managing high profile pedestrian and bicycle projects and programs with the City of Seattle and as a private consultant.
Peter is a nationally known expert having worked on non-motorized projects and made presentations in over 200 states, counties and cities. Most recently he was the project manager for developing and implementing the widely acclaimed Seattle Bicycle Master Plan; and co-author of the FHWA manual on "How to Develop a Pedestrian Safety Action Plan." He brings extensive experience in the development and implementation of policies and programs related to bike lanes, sharrows, bicycle parking, marked crosswalks, school signing, curb ramps, sidewalks and trails. Other areas of experience and expertise include bicycle and pedestrian maps, grant writing, legal issues, safe routes to school, social marketing, encouragement and education programs and public participation. Tom Huber Tom Huber (Senior Planner, Toole Design Group) is the Director of our Madison, WI office. Prior to joining TDG, he was the Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator for Wisconsin DOT (WisDOT) for nearly 20 years. Tom accomplished a great deal during his tenure with WisDOT, including award-winning State Bicycle and Pedestrian Plans, design manuals, and workforce training to create a culture within the department that supports bicycling and walking. Tom has been very active on the national level, serving as a leader among State Coordinators on a wide variety of issues, as well as hosting the Coordinators' annual meeting in Madison twice. He has served on a dozen state and federal research projects and has written four research proposals. Tom is one of the founding members of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals.
