Withers Swash Watershed TourNorth Inlet Winyah Bay NERRMyrtle Beach, SC Coastal water quality, which is strongly influenced by stormwater runoff, is of great concern in the Grand Strand of South Carolina. Coastal waters near Withers Swash in Myrtle Beach report high levels of enterococcus bacteria, an indicator of fecal contamination. Academic institutions and the City of Myrtle Beach have teamed up to gain a better understanding of water quality conditions in an effort to mitigate negative influences to the coastal environment and the economic threat it poses to tourism. During this program, participants will visit significant sites throughout Withers Swash Watershed to learn about water quality monitoring, research, and community planning efforts to improve local water quality.
