Developing a Low Impact Development Manual for Coastal South CarolinaAce Basin NERRCharleston, SC Free event The ACE Basin and North Inlet-Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserves, the Center for Watershed Protection, and South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium are pleased to announce that we have been funded to develop a Low Impact Development Manual for Coastal South Carolina. This two-year project aims to provide local decision-makers with stormwater engineering specifications, land use planning resources, and site design practices that are tailored to the conditions of the South Carolina coast. Project partners will host a number of workshops throughout the development of the manual to obtain stakeholder input and feedback on its design and content.
During this program, you will learn about the project, its partners and their role, and your role in the manual’s development. You will also learn about existing tools, BMP specifications, model stormwater ordinances, and case studies from guidance manuals in other states.
Your input is greatly valued, as participant discussion will help the project team address the following questions:
- Should the LID manual be designed to help local communities exceed state stormwater requirements?
- What natural conditions should be considered in the development of LID tools and BMP specs for coastal South Carolina? And should they address water quantity, quality, or both?
- How should a Model Stormwater Ordinance and Ordinance Checklist be tailored to meet state requirements and local needs?
- How and which case studies from our coast should be described in the manual, including the depth and breadth of examples?
More Instructors: Greg Hoffmann, P.E. A Wisconsin native, Greg is a Professional Engineer with a Master of Engineering from Michigan Technological University. Prior to joining the Center, Greg worked for a private consulting firm in Port Huron, Michigan, gaining experience on a wide variety of engineering projects, ranging from private site plans to large-scale stream restoration and watershed planning. Greg began at the Center in 2008, and has been involved with development of stormwater regulations and guidance documents, watershed assessment and planning, stormwater retrofitting, local program development, and training on various stormwater and watershed topics. Sadie Drescher Sadie has over 11 years of environmental professional experience. Sadie joined the Center in 2009. She develops watershed management strategies and tools for local communities with an emphasis on coastal stormwater management, training, and science translation for end users. Prior to joining the Center, Sadie worked for SC’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management in the Science and Policy Division, USDA Center for Forested Wetlands (SC), and Oak Ridge National Laboratroy (TN). Sadie has a MS in Environmental Studies from the College of Charleston (2005) and a BS in Biology from Tennessee Technological University (1999). (1 Ratings)
