APA-FL 11th Annual Public Policy Workshop: Morning SessionsAPA Florida ChapterTallahassee, FL Public policy is the backbone of comprehensive planning. In Florida where comprehensive planning is governed by statewide legislation, planners need to be involved in the public policy arena. This workshop provides an in-depth discussion of a number of emerging policy issues and legal issues in Florida that need to be addressed for the future.
More Instructors: Steve Lindorff AICP Steve Lindorff, AICP, is the Director of Planning and Development for the City of Jacksonville Beach and will serve as the President of the Florida Redevelopment Association in 2013. During his tenure with Jacksonville Beach, he spearheaded the development of two community development districts. Over the years he has overseen the downtown redevelopment program, assessed values have increased from $42.3 million to over $607.4 million. He holds a master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Polytech. Tim Chapin Tim Chapin is an Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida State University. He earned his B.A. in Sociology from Emory University, a master’s in City Planning from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Urban Design and Planning from the University of Washington. Dr. Chapin’s research interests are in the areas of growth management/comprehensive planning and downtown redevelopment. He was lead editor and chief contributor to Growth Management in Florida: Planning for Paradise, a book that evaluates the effectiveness of the state’s 1985 Growth Management Act. Chapin’s work has been supported by many organizations, including the Century Commission for a Sustainable Florida, the Lincoln Institute for Land Policy, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. He teaches courses in population and employment forecasting, community infrastructure, economic development, and growth management. Scott Koons AICP Scott Koons, AICP, has served as the Executive Director of the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council since 2006 and is also the current chair of the Florida Regional Councils Association Executive Directors Advisory Committee. He has over 35 years of professional planning experience. He holds a master’s in urban and regional planning from the University of Florida. (57 Ratings)
