Fall 2009
Certification Maintenance
Quarterly Achievement Report
Each quarter, APA Interact for Certified Planners will share Institute-wide CM achievement with all AICP members to track our progress and help you benchmark your own. The first two-year CM reporting period began on January 1, 2008, although many AICP members began earning credits as early as April 14, 2007, at the National Planning Conference in Philadelphia.
As of September 2009, more than 38 percent of current AICP members in the 2008-2009 reporting period have logged 32 or more CM credits. In June 2009, 27 percent had logged 32 or more of the required credits, completing their requirements, and in March 2009, 15 percent completed the required credits.
The percentage of members who have not logged credits has decreased from 36 percent in December 2008 to 18 percent September 2009.

The above chart represents total members on the 2008-2009 reporting period = 13,311. This excludes members classified as exempt due to retired status or approval of a temporary exemption and those on the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 reporting periods.
There are 452 providers currently registered, up from 434, and 4,237 approved events, up from 3,793 events in June 2009.
APA created a web page to help AICP members find free Certification Maintenance (CM) credits that are offered through APA distance education products. Opportunities are added as they become available. Currently there are more than 32 opportunities available. We encourage members to check this page frequently for the most current information.

The above chart compares region totals for CM approved events and AICP members on the 2008-2009 reporting period = 13,311, excluding members classified as exempt due to retired status or approval of a temporary exemption and those on the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 reporting periods.
APA has launched several tools to assist members with their continuing education requirement. Found on your CM log, these tools include the ability to self-report up to 8 credits from non-registered activities that meet CM criteria and the option to claim up to 16 CM credits for authoring a peer-reviewed, planning-related article.
We continually monitor the availability of CM events. Distance education opportunities such as online courses, audio/web conferences, CD-ROMs, and podcasts will continue to play an important role in helping all AICP members fulfill their CM requirements.
