Dan Zack is the Downtown Development Coordinator for the City of Redwood City. He has been with the City since the summer of 2003, and before that he worked in Fresno, California in both regional transportation planning and local land use planning. In Redwood City Dan serves as the City's liaison with the Downtown business community and manages various Downtown projects for the City. Dan works on a wide variety of planning programs with the goal of turning Downtown Redwood City into the vibrant heart of the San Francisco Peninsula. His downtown projects include a 20-screen cinema, Courthouse Square, numerous streetscape improvements, and the first privately undertaken housing in decades. He designed the first performance-based parking system in the nation, as inspired by professor Donald Shoup. Dan has also worked on Redwood City’s award-winning General Plan, the conversion of El Camino Real into a grand boulevard, the creation of a form-based code, historic preservation, and new zoning for a variety of settings. Dan is passionate about cities, from the biggest metropolis to the smallest village. For nearly 20 years he has worked to make them beautiful, functional, and prosperous, focusing on downtowns and walkable neighborhoods.
