Buffalo Perry Choice Neighborhood - A Case Study of HUD's Choice Neighborhood Initiative ProgramWallace Roberts & Todd, LLCPhiladelphia, PA WRT was retained by the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority to develop a neighborhood master plan for the Perry Choice Neighborhood – a distressed community surrounded by unique assets and opportunities. Planning-related educational objectives are: 1. Overview of the HUD Choice Neighborhoods program – Housing, People and Neighborhoods 2. Best practices in community engagement – 3D modeling tools, online surveys, Google Maps, visual preference surveys, physical models 3. Walk-through of the planning process – from physical constraints to public and private sector initiatives to community input to vision 4. Green design – LEED ND, LEED NC, and Enterprise Green Communities

Instructors: Woo Kim AICP Woo is an associate at WRT and trained as an urban designer and planner. He has over 10 years of experience working in design and planning fields. His training and experience are rooted in his ability to move from the architectural scale of housing and mixed-use development to large-scale city planning. He brings an interdisciplinary perspective to all of his work, with an emphasis on understanding the economic, environmental and social issues of placemaking in the plans that he creates. Woo serves as project manager for WRT's neighborhood design projects, downtown plans, campus plans, and new city plans in Asia. His work has helped communities such as Trenton, NJ, Paterson, NJ, Jersey City, NJ secure public and private funding to revitalize distressed neighborhoods. Alex Morris Alex is an associate and architect at WRT whose focus is designing dense, walkable, and sustainable affordable housing communities that positively influence their surrounding neighborhoods. His commitment to green design, coupled with his dedication to educating clients regarding sustainable practices, has resulted in an ever-increasing commitment from our clients to seek LEED certification for their projects. Since joining WRT in 2003, Alex has served as Project Architect and Project Manager on projects for Pennrose Properties and other for-profit and non-profit housing developers and housing authorities. His most recent work experience includes the completion of a draft master plan for 11 public housing sites for the Charlottesville Housing Authority, and completion of Garfield Court, a 67-unit LEED Silver-rated affordable housing project located in Long Branch, NJ.
