An Alaska Snowbird Pondering Paradise

George J. Cannelos, AICP

While participants agreed that Verrado has many outstanding attributes of forward-thinking new town planning, we ran out of time as the discussion turned to issues of social justice and affordable housing. What are the requirements in Arizona for a private developer to provide affordable housing? What's the ultimate mix of housing types once Verrado is fully built out? Does the developer measure diversity among residents? Are there any goals to do so? I committed to pursue these issues with the developer and respond back to planners who filled out a critique form.
