Training & Workshops
APA offers live, interactive training opportunities to meet your needs.
National Planning Conference
Meet with your peers and learn the most recent advances in the planning profession at APA's National Planning Conference. Thousands of planners gather each year.
APA produces live audio/web conferences each year on planning issues that draw officials, practicing planners, consultants, researchers, attorneys, and students from around the country. See what's available in the current series.
Planners Training Service Workshops
Planners Training Service, a program of AICP, offers advanced training for practicing planners. These two-day workshops are held several times throughout the year and around the country. Check out the current workshops.
Set your own pace with E-Learning options. CD-ROMs, streaming education, and national conference virtual sessions keep you on your toes.
Calendar of Events
Find the training program that works for you by searching for the right topic, location, or date on APA Advance. The calendar also includes self-study courses that can match a limited travel budget.
Many training opportunities satisfy the Certification Maintenance requirements for AICP planners.
Chapter and Division Conferences
American Planning Association chapters conduct annual chapter conferences, regional conferences, and various educational programs such as brown bag meetings, workshops, and mobile workshops. APA's special interest divisions also conduct education programs and coordinate sessions at the national planning conference.
New Directors and Managers Institutes
Launched in 2005, the New Directors Institute (NDI) provides planning directors with a full day of intensive training and professional reflection at the National Planning Conference.
The Managers Institute (MI) provides senior-level managers, or those aspiring to management positions, with a full day of intensive training and professional reflection at the National Planning Conference.
