The City of Worcester’s Executive Office of Economic Development is seeking qualified, highly motivated applicants for the position of Director of Planning & Regulatory Services. The Director will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the efficient operations of the fast-paced Division of Planning & Regulatory Services. In this professional position, the Director will be responsible for advanced planning analysis and research in the areas of land use, housing, sustainability, and community/ economic development; providing board support to five regulatory boards; overseeing a staff of six; and the management of the City’s clean energy programs.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, and have strong organizational, interpersonal, written, oral communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Flexibility with regard to work assignments and work hours is required.
Bachelor’s degree in city or regional planning, geography, public administration, architecture, environmental studies, civil engineering, or any other discipline applicable to land use planning, and 10 years of professional experience in related field; or a Master’s degree in city or regional planning or related field and 8 years of professional experience; strong computer skills and knowledge of standard productivity and database software (MS Office Suite); experience with Geographic Information Systems desirable; AICP, bilingual a plus. Residency within the City of Worcester is required within one year of appointment.
