The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT or Bureau) seeks a Transportation Planning Manager with a background in city planning or urban design, exceptional communication and project management skills, and a passion for innovation. The Transportation Planning Manager will help shape the future use of Portland’s right of way by involving the public in creative and meaningful ways and communicating progress to wide and diverse audiences. S/he will be responsible for all aspects of transportation planning and relevant public involvement (with support from the Bureau's communications team) and executing planning activities, programs and multi-faceted initiatives.
This is not a conventional planning job. The City of Portland has a Commission form of government and is deeply committed to collaborative engagements. The Transportation Planning Manager will work closely with the City Council, the Planning and Sustainability Commission, and other City bureaus.
The Transportation Planning Manager will have an approach anchored to the way that people use public space and experience mode share, culture and urban design. The Bureau seeks to build upon its grounded principles and layer on a flexible and innovative planning, design and development process. The Transportation Planning Manager will work directly with the PBOT Director to advance this unique approach to planning. S/he will be a key player in realizing the Bureau’s mission.
