Serves as a senior planner responsible for land use planning, policy development, and development review. Researches, analyzes and makes recommendations to senior staff, Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors on special planning studies, complicated development applications and proposed amendments to the Comprehensive Plan. Formulates work programs, and serves as project manager or team leader on consultant studies and staff directed planning efforts. Performs and oversees data collection and analysis using appropriate methodologies. Prepares and develops information on existing conditions and trends, to be used in special studies, development review analysis and Plan monitoring. Makes planning recommendations and evaluates impact of development proposals. Prepares a variety of written materials including research reports, planning studies and evaluations, and public hearing items. Acts as liaison to citizens task forces. Makes presentations before the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and citizens groups. Represents the office on county and regional committees. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a planning-related field; plus four years of experience in a planning-related field, preferably in the area of assignment (e.g., zoning evaluation, zoning administration, public facility, environmental planning, or land use planning). The years of experience should include a minimum of three years of experience in this area of assignment.
Preferred Qualifications: Professional experience in: planning, particularly for urban and/or transit-oriented areas; review of development applications; and policy development with a public planning agency. Strong abilities in written and oral communications. Ability to use personal computer equipment, and prepare data for automated data processing. Master's degree in planning, landscape architecture or closely related field.
