Confers with property owners, project developers, utility officials, public officials, engineers, architects, and other professionals to insure compatibility of development proposals with comprehensive plans and zoning, subdivision, and related ordinances; develops and presents recommendations to Planning Commission; prepares staff reports as necessary; serves as staff to Planning Commission.
Prepares updates and revisions of comprehensive plan as necessary; collects or supervises collection of economic, demographic, land use, capacity, and natural resource data to revise comprehensive plan; coordinates long-range planning with other divisions of City; presents plans and revisions to citizens, planning commissioners, and elected officials. Prepares planning studies as needed.
Serves as staff advisor to the Idaho Falls Beautification Commission; makes public presentations as necessary. Attends public meetings including Planning Commission and City Council; presents development proposals to elected officials, citizens and community groups; presents information on community growth and development to community groups.
In absence of current planner, receives and reviews applications for rezonings, annexations, conditional-use permits, variances, subdivision plats, and amendments to the zoning ordinance and comprehensive plan. Serves as staff of Board of Adjustment when necessary.
Interprets zoning and related ordinances; prepares drafts of zoning and related ordinances and amendments; receives public comment; presents such amendments to planning commissioners and elected officials.
Confers with public and private officials in administration of zoning and annexation matters and procedures; monitors revision of zoning and annexation maps to assure accurate updates;.
Responds to community questions, concerning zoning and annexation matters by telephone, correspondence, or in person; ; composes related correspondence.
In absence of Planning Director/City Planner, acts as liaison to Mayor and Council on planning, zoning, and building matters.
