Olmsted County has a full-time Director of Consolidated Planning position available. The job consists of directing and coordinating the activities of the Planning Department and reports to both the City of Rochester and Olmsted County Administration. The Department is responsible for providing policy recommendations, developing elements of the City of Rochester and Olmsted County comprehensive plans, implementing these plans through official controls, and providing information, technical services, basic data, and long-range projections as a basis for consistent area-wide planning. The Department also provides staff for the Rochester Olmsted Council of Governments (the area’s Metropolitan Planning Organization) and the Olmsted County Housing and Redevelopment Authority, and is the center for developing and disseminating addressing and GIS services for all City, County, and ROCOG functions. The Rochester-Olmsted Planning Department was formed in 1975 through the merger of the Olmsted County Department of Development and the Rochester Planning Department. The combined department provides planning and related services under the administrative direction of the Planning Administrative Services Committee (PASC), which is in charge of setting the department's budget and work program within the constraints established by the County's levy for the department.
The minimum requirements include as follows:
A master's degree in urban or regional planning, geography, or related field and ten (10) years experience in preparation and implementation of city, county and regional comprehensive plans and ordinances, with five (5) of those years in an administrative and/or supervisory role; Or a combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to sixteen (16) years in a similar position as listed in the examples of work, with five (5) of those years in an administrative and/or supervisory role.
Member of the American Institute of Certified Planners or eligible for membership within six (6) months.
