Acts as Branch Chief for the Special Permit and Variance Branch, which serves as staff support to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Supervises planners in the review, analysis, and staff recommendations for special permit and variance applications, and responds to other requests for information. Supervises clerks in recording and editing meetings minutes and record keeping. Reviews staff reports for quality and technical accuracy. Attends meetings to assist planners in negotiating sessions with applicants. Trains personnel. Coordinates all work activities closely with the other division Branch Chiefs, the Director and Assistant Director, and other county agencies and offices. Attends Board of Zoning Appeals meetings as well as meetings with citizens, private developers, etc., as required. Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a planning-related field; plus five years of experience in a planning-related field (preferably in the specific area of assignment). A master's degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience. The years of experience should include a minimum of three years of experience in the specific area of assignment (e.g., planning, zoning evaluation, development review, and/or site plan review).
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in planning or closely related field. Professional experience in the planning, zoning and site plan review fields, including supervisory experience. Experience should include several years in zoning evaluation/development review as well as supervision of staff. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to use personal computer equipment.
