Denver International Airport is seeking a seasoned Director of Airport Planning and Noise to become a key member of the management team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the success of the airport planning section and noise office.

This position will lead the planning section supporting all airport divisions, by providing strategic thinking an analysis, input to design for airside and landside projects, supporting the Airport City Denver (www.airportcitydenver.com) urban and regional design, including transit oriented development at the airport commuter rail stations, and developing operational standards. This position is also responsible for managing the noise office, and the airport's Geographic Information System (GIS) data.
As mentioned, a key initiative for this role is to support Airport City development strategies. Airport City development is increasingly used by airports around the world as a means to capitalize upon their property assets and connectivity to generate non-airline revenues and stimulate regional economic development. Generating non-airline revenues from land not needed for direct aeronautical purposes enables an airport to offset airport operating costs, which are critical to an airport’s ability to attract new carriers to the airport as well as remain competitive in an increasingly challenging global market.
We are looking for a planning expert who has extensive experience dealing with the complexities of a large commercial airport; and who understands that a great leader, engaged employees, and a well executed plan is crucial for the development goals of our airport.
We are also closing in our 20th anniversary, and as a result are facing issues with aging systems and facilities. This role will include development and presentation of analysis of capacity, facilities throughput balance, return on investment, and other critical factors to support leadership decisions on capital investment.

Monitors and directs daily operations to ensure budgets, schedules, goals and objectives are met, and services are being provided efficiently and effectively.
Is responsible for developing, and obtaining FAA approval of the DEN Master Plan and Airport Layout Plan.
Oversees the development of the programming and planning of all capital projects.
Directs the analysis of regulatory, demographic and technological factors affecting the facility development needs of the airport. Provides subject matter expertise for studies and decisions to senior airport executives.
Directs the review of development initiatives, design and construction projects to ensure work meets program requirements, and is consistent with the Airport Master Plan and the FAA-approved Airport Layout Plan. Directs the preparation and publication of the Airport Master Plan and the Airport Layout Plan. Directs the development and submittal process of project justifications, plans, and plan modifications for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval.
Directs scenario planning and analysis for decision making.
Supports Airport City development. This requires non-aviation related planning skills, including Urban and Regional Planning, as well as Transit Oriented Development. The airport is planning 9000 acres unrelated to our airport mission, and this job will include supporting this effort through both strategic and tactical response.
Directs compliance with all noise provisions established by intergovernmental agreements and develops and coordinates noise abasement procedures in conjunction with local and federal governmental agencies and other stakeholders.
Educates and works with the community to develop understanding and consensus on planning and noise issues.
Represents DIA with other public agencies and provides input for regional land use and transportation issues. Reviews and comments on proposed legislation affecting land use, airspace, and access to and from the airport.
Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, opportunities, and challenges.
Manages overall financial operations of the section’s operating budget, as well as any federally and locally funded project budgets; ensures all budgets remain at or below established targets.
Resolves operational and management issues, makes decisions that include multiple perspectives and solves underlying problems. Contributes to the development and implementation of section work plans based on the annual and strategic plans.
Coaches, mentors, and challenges staff. Champions continuous improvement, including devising new strategies and new opportunities. Sets performance standards for the division and ensure operations achieve or exceed performance metrics.
Demonstrates personal accountability and responsibility, and holds staff to same standards.
