Perform management leadership and technical work in the implementation, development, and redevelopment of the County’s Waldorf Urban Redevelopment Corridor (WURC). Work under the direction of the County Administrator to manage the County’s redevelopment efforts, including monitoring projects; developing status reports; and promoting and coordinating projects and services. The WURC Manager will work closely with County staff to coordinate services and projects; and communicate with, and make presentations to, the Board of County Commissioners, the Planning Commission, and key staff. Coordinate a staff implementation team, develop detailed schedules, and monitor team progress. Draft redevelopment project budgets; recommend funding mechanisms or cost sharing partnerships; research and apply for grant opportunities. Conduct intergovernmental coordination; meet with agencies on the county, state, and federal levels to promote redevelopment and transit services for Charles County.
Must have knowledge of urban planning, growth management, redevelopment, and economic development; and management principles of real estate development, budgeting, and project management. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the principles of Smart Growth, Urban Redevelopment Planning, and Transit Oriented Development. Must have the ability to negotiate public redevelopment projects; plan, organize, and direct project teams; and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Requires a Master’s degree (in Urban or City Planning, Redevelopment, Economic Development, Architecture, or a related field is preferred); and 5 years progressively responsible related experience. Must be able to maintain confidential information. Any acceptable combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.
The WURC Manager is subject to work beyond the normal scheduled hours of work, to include frequent evening meetings. Some travel outside of the area for meetings or conferences may be required. Licenses and Certifications: AICP, LEED AP, CEcD, and AIA are a plus, but not required.
