A Unique Opportunity:
City of Concord, NH (Pop. 43,000). The City of Concord is seeking a highly motivated individual to work for one of the most progressive communities in the country in the field of planning, development and redevelopment. The City Planner will work with a team of experienced staff and lead the City’s planning efforts as it meets the challenges necessary to continue to build a sustainable, high quality community.
The City Planner will direct, manage and supervise the day to day operations of the Planning Division within the Community Development Department. The City Planner is a critical member of the Department’s leadership team reporting to the Deputy City Manager for Development. In addition to oversight of daily operations, the City Planner and his/her staff create and implement planning initiatives, assist in capital project management and provide professional support to the Planning Board and Heritage and Conservation Commissions.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to constructively engage a community that is well educated, knowledgeable and highly involved in all aspects of local government, and build consensus. The ability to collaborate and work effectively with all levels of the organization, including senior management, is a must. The ideal candidate will find the complexities of municipal government planning rewarding and challenging and has the ability to approach these challenges with a positive entrepreneurial attitude and objectivity. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and strategic thinker who is capable of seeing the broader picture, while managing many issues and projects at the same time.
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) from a four-year college or university in planning, community development, public administration, geography or a related field; and, five or more years of progressively responsible experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
Licenses and Certifications (All preferred but not required):
AICP Certification; APA Member; NHPA Member
