Infrastructure Investment

Investing in existing infrastructure such as transportation systems and utilities is important for long-term sustainability of our communities and regions. New opportunities exist to green traditional gray infrastructure — such as through green streets — or to invest in different types of infrastructure — such as transit and renewable energy infrastructure — that will help lead us to more sustainable communities.

APA recognizes the critical importance of this and has created the National Infrastructure Investment Task Force to evaluate current conditions and challenges affecting the nation's vital infrastructure, develop a new vision for that infrastructure, and identify recommendations for changes in public policy and planning practice.

Other APA resources on infrastructure include the August/September 2008 issue of Planning magazine and Transportation Infrastructure: The Challenges of Rebuilding America (PAS Report 557).
