Launched in 2005, the New Directors Institute (NDI) provides planning directors with a full day of intensive training and professional reflection. New Directors Institute is specifically designed for first time directors as well as more experienced directors who have moved into a new director position with vastly different challenges and opportunities. If you are a new director, you will not want to miss this once-a-year opportunity to:
Connect with a select group of your peers for a dynamic training program developed by APA in collaboration with a number of seasoned directors from around the country.
Learn about a variety of topics including: the nature of planning leadership; how best to communicate with, manage, train, and inspire your staff; how to deal with fiscal crisis and staffing cuts; how to deal with the mayor or other elected officials; and how to keep perspective and mental health in your new job.
Discover the secrets to success in an interactive environment led by a professional leadership trainer and a distinguished faculty of accomplished directors.
NDI is funded in part by the City Planning and Management Division of the American Planning Association. The mission of the City Planning and Management Division is to "advance the practice of city planning and management in the large-city setting."
