Community Planning Director Elected to APA's Professional Institute Commission

WASHINGTON, DC — The Community Planning Director for the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, Anna M. Breinich, AICP, has been elected to serve as Region I Commissioner for the American Planning Association's professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners.

As Region I Commissioner, Breinich will serve four years on the eight-member commission guiding certification, ethics, professional development and accreditation policies. She will represent members from Region I, which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. This is a volunteer position.

Breinich has more than 27 years of county, municipal, and private sector planning experience. In addition to her current position, she is an adjunct associate professor and Harrisburg Program Coordinator at Temple University Ambler for the master's degree in Community and Regional Planning Program.

She is an active association member and has held numerous national, state, and local positions. She served on the AICP membership committee, Planning Accreditation Board Criteria Review Task Force and the AICP Exam Review Material Task Force. She served as the APA Pennsylvania Chapter President, the chapter Professional Development Officer, Chair of the APA Chapter Presidents Council, and is the current co-chair of the APA 2007 National Planning Conference Local Host Committee. She became a certified planner in 1985.

Breinich received a bachelor's degree in Sociology and certificate in Social Work from Elizabethtown College, and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the Pennsylvania State University. She currently serves on the Middle Paxton Township Planning Commission, Dauphin County.
