Raleigh Planning Director Elected to National Planning Board

WASHINGTON, DC — Raleigh, North Carolina, Planning Director, Mitchell J. Silver, AICP, was elected to serve as Director-at-Large on the American Planning Association's Board of Directors.

As Director-at-Large, Silver will serve as one of the 13-members on the APA Board of Directors, setting the association's policy direction and strategic goals. Silver will serve for four years in this volunteer position.

Silver has held positions in both the public and private sectors, including serving as the Deputy Director in the Office of Planning in Washington, D.C., Northern Manhattan Planning and Policy Director for the Manhattan Borough President in New York, and as a city planner in the New York City Planning Department.

A proven leader within the association, Silver served as the co-chair of the APA National Planning Conference host committee in 2001, and president of the New York Metro Chapter that received the Chapter Presidents Council Karen B. Smith Award for Overall Chapter Achievement during his tenure.

Silver is a certified planner and a licensed professional planner in the state of New Jersey. He received a Bachelor of Architecture from the Pratt Institute and a Master of Urban Planning from Hunter College.
