Mount Vernon Resident Elected to National Planning Board

WASHINGTON, DC — David W. Woods, AICP, of Mount Vernon, New York, was elected to serve as Region I Director on the American Planning Association's (APA) Board of Directors. APA is a 39,000-member organization committed to promoting better communities through good planning.

As Region I Director, Woods will serve as one of 13-members on the APA Board of Directors, setting the association's policy direction and strategic goals. He will address the board on behalf of members in Region I, which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Ontario, Quebec, and the Canadian Maritime Provinces. Woods will serve four years in this volunteer position.

Woods has more than 20 years of experience in the planning profession. Over the last 10 years he has worked as a consultant and public sector planner in the states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. He is the principal and managing partner of GreenWoods Associates, a small New York state-chartered planning consulting firm. Woods recently was appointed to serve as commissioner of the Department of Planning, Environment, and Land Management for the town of Brookhaven, New York.

A dedicated member of APA, Woods has been active in the association at both the state and national level. He currently serves as the APA New York Metro Chapter's vice president for professional development. He previously served on the National Education Task Force Group and as a committee member on the APA National Planning Conference host committee.

Woods holds a bachelor's degree from California State University, and master's degrees from the University of Maryland and Florida State University. He is a doctoral candidate at Fordham University. Woods became a certified planner in 1993 and is a licensed professional planner in the state of New Jersey.
