January 2, 2008 The Benefits of Car-Sharing Programs CHICAGO — Car-sharing programs are becoming an important tool to reduce car use and congestion in urban areas. Learn about the I-GO Car Sharing program at the next American Planning Association's Tuesdays at APA forum on January 8, 2008. The discussion begins at 5 p.m. at APA's 122 S. Michigan Ave. conference center. The event is free and open to the public. Sharon Feigon, CEO of I-GO Car Sharing, will discuss how car sharing works, the benefits of such a program, and how these programs influence the urban landscape. I-GO Car Sharing is an affiliate organization of the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT). Previously Feigon was CNT's Manager of Research and Development, specializing in innovative market-based solutions to the problems of urban sprawl, and she coordinated CNT's transit-oriented development program. Car-sharing programs reduce the demand for parking and enable land devoted to parking to be repurposed. These programs also offer consumer savings and environmental benefits. Tuesdays at APA is a monthly after-work lecture and discussion series. Each month, practicing planners and researchers discuss the latest ideas, concepts and research in the planning field. For more information and upcoming events, visit www.planning.org/tuesdaysatapa or call 312-431-9100. The next Tuesdays at APA event will be February 19, 2008, examining the history of Chicago homeownership. Contact |
