Tallahassee Planner Elected to AICP Commission

CHICAGO — Valerie Hubbard, AICP, of Tallahassee, Florida, has been elected to serve on the commission of the American Planning Association's (APA) professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).

Hubbard will represent the interests of AICP members. As one of eight commissioners, Hubbard will be responsible for guiding the certification of professional planners and the standards of practice, including ethics. She will begin her term on June 11, 2008. This is a volunteer position.

Hubbard is a certified planner and director of planning services for Akerman Senterfitt, Attorneys at Law. Prior to her current position, Hubbard was director of the community planning division for the Florida Department of Community Affairs.

An active APA member, Hubbard was president of the APA Florida Chapter, vice president for professional development and the APA Florida Orlando Metro Section president. Hubbard serves on the Professional Advisory Committee for the University of Florida's Urban and Regional Planning Department and is a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club in Tallahassee.

Hubbard has a master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Florida.
