June 10, 2008 Shelby Planner Reelected to APA BoardCHICAGO — Carol Rhea, AICP, of Shelby, North Carolina, has been reelected to serve on the Board of Directors for the American Planning Association (APA), a 44,000-member organization committed to promoting better communities through good planning. This is Rhea's second consecutive four-year term serving on the board. She is one of 13 members on the APA Board of Directors responsible for setting the association's policy direction and strategic goals. She will begin her second term on June 11. This is a volunteer position. Rhea is a certified planner and assistant director of planning and development services for York County, South Carolina. She also is president of Rhea Consulting, Inc., a part-time consulting practice that works with the public sector on planning, group facilitation, ordinances and regulations, board training, permitting, code enforcement, and solid waste. Prior to consulting, Rhea was director of planning and development for the City of Monroe, North Carolina. An active APA member, Rhea currently serves as the chair of the APA National Planning Awards Jury and as a Planning Accreditation Board site visitor that reviews university planning programs.
