June 10, 2008 Indianapolis Planner Elected to APA BoardCHICAGO — Cynthia Bowen, AICP, from Indianapolis, Indiana, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the American Planning Association (APA), a 44,000-member organization committed to promoting better communities through good planning. Bowen will be one of 13 members on the APA Board of Directors responsible for setting the association’s policy direction and strategic goals. Bowen will begin her four-year term on June 11. This is a volunteer position. Bowen is an associate and director of planning and urban design at RW Armstrong, a global consulting firm. Prior to her current position, Bowen worked as a senior planner at HNTB Corporation. An active APA member, Bowen has held a number of leadership positions including president and professional development officer of the APA Indiana Chapter, and vice chair and secretary-treasurer of the Chapter Presidents Council. Bowen is a graduate of Ball State University with degrees in urban and regional planning and environmental science and design. She is a certified planner. Within her community, Bowen currently serves as a board member and Land Use Committee Chair for the Lafayette Square Area Coalition. She also currently serves on the Pike Township Advisory Board and served on the Ball State College of Architecture and Planning Indy Center Advisory Board.
