Virginia Planner Reelected to AICP Commission

CHICAGO — Terrance Harrington, AICP, of Yorktown, Virginia, has been reelected to serve on the commission of the American Planning Association's (APA) professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners. APA's professional institute is responsible for the certification of professional planners and standards of practice, including ethics.

This is Harrington's second consecutive four-year term serving on the commission. As one of eight commissioners, he will represent the interests of certified planners. He began his second term on Wednesday, June 11. This is a volunteer position.

Harrington is a certified planner and Director of Planning Services for MarshWitt Associates, a community planning, architecture, and value analysis consulting firm. Prior to MarshWitt, Harrington served as the planning director for Roanoke County, Virginia, and as a planner in Blacksburg, Virginia.

An active APA member, Harrington serves on the professional institute's exam committee, is a member of the Community Assistance Program committee, and is a Planning Accreditation Board site visitor that reviews university planning programs. He previously has served as the APA Virginia Chapter's Professional Development Officer and as chapter president.

Harrington holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from SUNY Plattsburgh and a graduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Tech.
