Bio: Tom Schwerdtfeger has spent the past four years planning in Alberta, Canada - most recently in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Tom supervises a group of development planners and support staff whose mandate is to process permit applications and work with developers on privately initiated policy planning projects. Tom has also prepared publicly sponsored planning projects including an award winning recreational area plan with novel environmental conservation and preservation approaches.

Bio: A true NAFTA planner, Dr. Alatorre has an outstanding professional practice that combines engagements in the public and private sectors in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Previous to joining the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Dr. Alatorre lead private consulting practice for FOA Consuling and ASCENSE Consulting in Northern Mexico. Dr. Alatorre held the position of Director of Planning and Development for the Trust for the Development of Northern Nuevo Leon (FIDENOR), a Nuevo Leon (Mexico) state promotion and development agency. He was directly responsible for the comprehensive planning of the town of Colombia, the state´s only international port, as well as for the state´s regional development plan that included fourteen municipalities. Dr. Alatorre was instrumental in the attraction of over $2.5 million dollars in public and private investment to the region. He achieved for FIDENOR the GOLD Award for an international economic development program granted by Business Facilities magazine in 2002 .Dr. Alatorre served as economic development consultant for Greater Philadelphia First, an association of chief executives of the largest corporations located in greater Philadelphia for the attraction and retention of investment to thier region. He has successfully served on public (Director of the Regional Planning and Cadastral Records Institute of the State of Coahuila, and Sub-Director of Urban Planning for the Municipality of Monterrey) and private positions (consultant for SEDESOL and FONATUR on regional planning and tourism development projects) in his natal Mexico.
Education: Dr. Alatorre obtained a B.A. in architecture from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM ‘88), holds two Master´s degrees in planning (University of Southern California ´91, University of Pennsylvania ´97), and earned his doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania (U.Penn '02).
