Bio: John Maximuk is the Deputy Director of the Livable Communities Coalition in Atlanta, Georgia. With 50 member organizations, the Livable Communities Coalition brings together a diverse group of citizens, organizations, institutions, and businesses that all share a determination to promote smart growth in the metro Atlanta region. John is responsible for policy development and project management at the Coalition. John’s experience is based in work in the Boston, Washington, and Atlanta regions. With time spent in local government, consulting, and the non-profit sector, John has focused on the role of design in planning. Other interests include smart growth, facilitation, planning management, and public participation. John currently serves on the Board of Citizens for Progressive Transit in Atlanta and served as Chair of the APA’s Urban Design and Preservation Division from 2006 to 2008.
