Bio: Heather Smith is the Planning Director for the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU). She provides staff support for six member task forces and over 3,200 members. She helps plan the CNU annual Congress. In 2005 she helped plan the Mississippi Renewal Forum-a 10 day planning charrette with over 120 architects and planners to address post Katrina issues.Heather is an adjunct faculty at DePaul University in the Geography Department.
Education: Heather holds a masters of science in urban planning from Columbia University and a bachelor's in urban studies and Japanese studies. She is holds a GIS certificate program at DePaul University.
Past Assignments: Spoke at APA conference in 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008. Also spoke at Smart Growth Conference in 2002, 2005, and 2008.
Bio: President, Urbsworks, Inc. Urban Design - Marcy is an award-winning, internationally recognized architect and urban designer, and a leader in the field of land use and transportation. She has practiced architecture and urban design for more than 27 years in New York City and Portland, Oregon. In 1995, she founded Urbsworks, and redirected her expertise to the often-neglected space between buildings. Over time she has sharpened her focus on a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach to sustainable urban design and placemaking, with a particular emphasis on smart, safe transportation and innovative codes for the benefit of communities.
