As more communities adopt complete streets policies, the “cost question” may emerge. How can planners effectively address this question, among others, and sustain professional, political, and public support? This session addresses the perceived additional costs associated with a complete streets policy with specific examples and lessons learned from communities across the Unites States, including Nashville, Tenn., and Charlotte N.C.

Direct policy, program and project recommendations of Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Study. Manage active transportation and health data collection sub-study of the regional household transportation survey. Analyze bicycle/pedestrian crash data for causal attributes. Oversee application process for STP funds reserved for active transportation infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects. Conduct Health, Social Justice and Environmental Justice impact evaluations of Regional Transportation Plan. Co-Chair the Tennessee Obesity Taskforce. Bio: Stefanie Seskin, Deputy Director of the National Complete Streets Coalition, provides technical assistance to advocates, practitioners, and elected officials as they develop, and implement Complete Streets policies. She manages the Coalition’s activities in several programs, including the CDC's Community Transformation Grants and the U.S. EPA's Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities. She coordinates workshops; shares best practices in policy development; reviews draft policy language; advises on strategy and advocacy; and connects communities with resources for policy implementation. She was named Young Professional of the Year by the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals.
