Bio: John is a Principal and Cofounder of Houseal Lavigne Associates and has established himself as one of the region’s top urban planning professionals with a reputation as a leader in urban planning, contemporary development practices, and community outreach. John has directed, managed, and assisted with a wide range of planning assignments throughout the country, including comprehensive plans, downtown and corridor revitalization plans, neighborhood plans, master development concepts, and more. John received a Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences from the University of Michigan and a Master’s degree in environmental and urban planning from Arizona State University. Prior to cofounding Houseal Lavigne Associates, John was a Principal and the Director of Urban Planning for URS Corporation, where he oversaw and directed the firm’s urban planning and community development projects, often coordinating on assignments throughout the country. John has been a featured speaker at several national, regional, and state events and conferences for issues related to urban planning, zoning, transportation, context sensitive design, environmental issues and sustainability, transit-oriented development, new urbanism, and planning graphics and innovation. John is recognized as one of the top community facilitators and consensus builders in the Midwest and has received several professional planning awards and distinctions, including several awards for from the American Planning Association for implementation, strategic planning, comprehensive planning, and more. John has also been inducted into the Lambda Alpha International, an international honorary fraternity for professional excellence in the field of land economics.
