Bio: Laura Kaminski has worked as a planner for sixteen years. She has worked for the City of Oakland, California, for almost eight years in both current and strategic planning. Before working for Oakland, she worked in North Carolina on various long-range plans for different communities. Currently in Oakland, she is the Project Manager for the City’s Parklet Program, which is in the pilot stages. She is creating permanent Parklet regulations for the City. She also is working on Oakland’s Broadway Valdez Specific Plan to help bring destination retail to the City along with a complete neighborhood, and she is assisting in updating the City’s parking regulations. One of her recent projects was, as an Assistant Project Manager for the Zoning Update, she helped in rewriting Oakland’s Commercial and Residential Zoning Codes along with rezoning over 100,000 parcels of the City’s Zoning Map. These codes had not been comprehensively updated since 1965.
