Bio: Jeff is the Hazard Mitigation Lead in AMEC Environment and Infrastructure’s Hazard Mitigation and Emergency Management Program and has over twenty one years of experience in emergency management, GIS and hazard mitigation planning work for state and local governments. With AMEC Jeff has been the project manager on more than twenty Disaster Mitigation Act (DMA) compliant local and state multi-hazard mitigation plans, as well as provided GIS-based risk analysis in support of many others. Jeff has also been involved with drought planning in Colorado and led three efforts to update the state’s drought mitigation and response plan (2002, 2010, and 2013). Jeff is experienced with FEMA mitigation grant programs and has assisted local and state governments with the development of successful and cost effective hazard mitigation project applications. Prior to joining AMEC in 2004 Jeff was the former State of Colorado, Pre Disaster Mitigation (PDM) planning coordinator for the Colorado Office of Emergency Management. Jeff has also worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a disaster assistance employee and was deployed on flood and earthquake disasters in the 1990’s. Jeff has a and is a Certified Floodplain Manager and AMEC Certified Project Manager.

Bio: Jim Schwab is senior research associate and manager of the Hazards Planning Research Center at the American Planning Association. He also serves as co-editor of Zoning Practice. He has managed numerous major APA sponsored research projects producing training or research related to hazards and environmental planning. As adjunct professor, he also teaches a course on disaster planning for the University of Iowa School of Urban and Regional Planning.
