Bio: Bharat Mathur is Deputy Regional Administrator of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5. In this role, he assists the Regional Administrator in implementing federal environmental programs in the Great Lakes states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Mathur has served as Acting Regional Administrator on four separate occasions since 2004, for a total of 41 months, when the Region has been without a politically appointed Regional Administrator. Mathur came to EPA in January 2000 as director of the Air and Radiation Division after a lengthy career with the state of Illinois, where he managed Illinois EPA offices dealing with air pollution, hazardous and solid waste, and Clean Water Act programs. He has served on numerous state and national committees to develop environmental policies and programs, and has consulted with government agencies in India, China, Indonesia, Korea and Mexico in the areas of waste management, air pollution control and pollution prevention.
