Bio: Claudio Sarmiento works as Urban Designer and Public Space Coordinator for EMBARQ Mexico's Urban Development and Accessibility area, specializing in public space design, urban density strategies, land use policy, as well as assessment systems and methodologies for urban developments. He is an active member and accredited professional of the Congress for the New Urbanism and is currently foreseeing Mexico's first design guide for sustainable neighborhoods.
Education: Claudio is an Architect and Urban Planner graduated with honors from Tecnológico de Monterrey. He has taught, researched, and studied New Urbanism, architectural theory and history. He also has had academic experience at TU Delft in the Netherlands and at McGill University in Canada, as well as urban planning and design experience in public spaces, master plans,and community-based projects in Querétaro and other Mexican cities.

Bio: Luis Terán has been involved in APA's ECPA projects since December 2011. He is the lead contractor for Bolivian project, Hábitat Para la Mujer Comunidad María Auxiliadora, and provides support to the other three ECPA projects. This includes coordinating programmatic and technical assistance. Luis conducted a site visit to the community in January 2013. Luis also participated in various international consulting projects with Virginia Tech's Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability (VT CLiGS). In 2011, Luis traveled to China to assess the adverse effects of the country's domestic tourism industry on cultural and environmental landmarks, including the Dragon's Back Rice Terraces of Longsheng. In early 2013, Luis again participated in a VT CLiGS consulting project, this time in Brazil. The project focused on the cross sector partnerships, between corporations and NGOs, to halt deforestation in Santarém.

Bio: Thomas Bassett is a senior program associate in the American Planning Association's Washington, D.C., office, where he works on many projects including the Community Assistance Program and International Outreach. He is part of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas team. He has participated in planning projects in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Germany, South Africa, and the United States. His published work appears in The South African Geographical Journal and URBAN, as well as a forthcoming article in Latin American Perspectives. He holds an MS in Urban Planning from Columbia University, and an AB in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies from Brown University.
