Water infrastructure decisions greatly impact a community’s physical and political environment. Tour the James W. Jardine Water Purification Plant (the world’s largest conventional water purification plant) and the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant (the world’s largest wastewater treatment plant) and learn how water travels in, around, and out of Chicago. Bio: Ylda Capriccioso is currently on the Government Affairs team at Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP). She focuses on land use, transportation and natural resources issues. Prior to coming to Chicago she worked for the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) in Government Affairs and Outreach focusing on water plan implementation, floodplain management, and other water projects.

Bio: Erin Aleman, principal planner, joined the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) in 2007. Since then, her primary focus has been on public engagement and outreach for CMAP. Ms. Aleman lead CMAP’s public engagement efforts for the development of the GO TO 2040 plan; engaging thousands of people and organizations across the region. She continues to leverage these partnerships as the lead for public engagement and outreach for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant CMAP was awarded in 2010 to spur implementation of GO TO 2040. In addition, Ms. Aleman has managed several innovative planning projects at CMAP including the development of a small grant program to engage traditionally underrepresented groups in planning and CMAP’s Future Leaders in Planning (FLIP) a planning and leadership development program for high school youth. In addition, Ms. Aleman has also worked on a variety of community-based planning projects in many Chicago neighborhoods such as, Hyde Park and Roseland, as well as with a multitude of the region’s 284 municipalities. Ms. Aleman is a member of the American Planning Association, a certified mediator, and has received a certificate in public engagement from the International Association of Public Participation. She holds a B.F.A from the University of Michigan and a Master of Urban Planning Design and Development from the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University.
