New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo invites urban designers, economists, planners, and architects to reimagine the future of the Buffalo Skyway Corridor in a design proposal competition.
The Buffalo Skyway Corridor (NYS Route 5) occupies a four-mile long swath of land along the City of Buffalo’s waterfront. For more than six decades, the limited-access expressway has served as a critical link for industrial traffic to cross the Buffalo River and connect with the downtown. Now, the corridor is evolving to accommodate recreational uses of its waterfront location, and the future of the space is a point of ongoing discussion for the city.
All interested competitors are invited to submit their design ideas for the Skyway Corridor in two parts. Part 1 includes an online form plus attachments, which are due June 28, 2019. Up to 20 qualifying submissions will advance to Part 2 of the competition, which includes a full technical proposal. The winning submission receives $100,000, with prizes of $50,000 and $25,000 for second and third place submissions.
