Planning Day 2019 - Tour 1

5

I really enjoyed this tour and appreciated the wide range of topics and locations covered. Everything from the rebuilding of the fire-damaged mobile home park, to the extensive BMP measures put in at Mission College, to the dog training, the mini-zoo and the historic aqueduct tour, it was a very interesting cross-section of topics. Ironically, literally about 1 week after the tour, some of the exact areas we visited were burned in a wildfire, a reminder of the real possibilities of that or earthquakes, etc. to impact the environment in these areas at any time.

Planning Day 2019 - Tour 2

This was an excellent tour that provided both a historical and a contemporary overview of the urban landscape of the San Fernando valley community, specifically, Mission Hill and its environs. The projects included in the tour captured not only adaptive reuse in business such as Sound City, and an after care facility, but also economic development projects such as the Mall. The tour of the Mission also provided some historical context.

TOUR 3 - Koreatown and Beyond

5

Nice variety of places and topics. Could have used 1 or 2 more development/planning related project visits, not just cultural sites, especially given the huge wave of development going on in Koreatown, especially Purple-Line TOD sites, but it was good that the tour was not over-rushed.

Vision theater and St Elmo projects were also excellent.

Which Way, Crenshaw? (Session 1)

Excellent tour of Historic Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, Leimert Park, Laffayette Square, Marlton Square. Panel Discussions very insightful and addressed the back stories to an excellent planning story, the development of the Kaiser Medical Officers in Marlton Square the site of the 1992 riots in South Los Angeles.
