Making Things Happen in Cities

4

I loved this session. Alexis and Dusty are both great speakers, as is Anthony. I really appreciated their insights and especially their examples from their communities. Since the speakers all have a variety of experience in different-sized cities, I felt it was a very well-rounded presentation--as well as entertaining and informative. Reminds planners that they are HUMANS and not robots.

PLACE-making and Urban Design

The session started out GREAT. I really enjoyed it and had invited colleagues from smaller, developing cities to join. However, ALL of the case study examples were highly metro areas and it was hard to translate similar concepts to smaller cities. She was disappointed and so was I. It would have been great to have a variety of scale in examples provided--placemaking is critical in all size communities.

Great history review, but I was really hoping there would be a short segment/section on the current legislation that has potential drastic effects on planning across the country.

While the speakers had lots of great data, their slides were too busy to actually read any of it. It would have been more helpful to have less words to go with their great stories and to just share a website link at the end instead.
