Talent drives economic development. Regions that attract talent flourish, those who do not struggle. As such, economic development and planning have become increasingly intertwined. Gone are the days when tax incentives and logistics are enough to compete. Today's economic engine is the workforce, and the needs of employees — millennials, Gen X’ers, and boomers alike — have become paramount in attracting and retaining companies, large and small. This session will focus on CityLine in Richardson, Texas. By integrating urban design and transportation-infrastructure design/finance with a comprehensive approach to transit-oriented development, 150 fallow acres have become a national model for the creation of a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood. Participants will also learn how to transition downtowns and other spaces into environments that offer a complete ecosystem to support economic development, including the tech sector and arts and culture in communities from McKinney, Texas, to New Rochelle, New York.
