Tribal communities are often overlooked in the realm of planning. Yet roughly two million Native Americans from 566 federally recognized tribes live on or near 56.2-million acres of reservation land. Thanks to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), numerous tribes have been able to complete necessary planning studies. Often, however, tribal representatives are unsure how to implement recommended projects. To help educate tribal representatives on the project implementation process, ADOT developed an interactive training program that provides users with all forms and information needed – all within three clicks of the mouse. The training program is an interactive PDF document that allows users to click through interactive elements to open training modules outlining key steps and processes. While developed for tribal governments, the program can be used by all planning agencies. This fun and interactive session will explore the training manual, outlining how to develop a long-range transportation plan, how to create a transportation improvement program, and how to secure funding as well as providing real-life case scenarios.
