MORE SESSION DETAILS

Dockless bike-share is quickly coming to cities around the world. The appeal of picking up and returning a bicycle virtually anywhere, supported by venture-capital investment, is driving these new systems of on-demand mobility. However, this convenience poses challenges with scattered and abandoned bikes. This session features planners, operators and policy experts at the forefront of dockless bike-share systems. Speakers will cover general information on bike-share and how dockless systems operate. At a more detailed level, speakers will address planning needs for integrating dockless bike-share into mobility and infrastructure planning. From citywide to downtown, from a college campus to tourist town, dockless bike-share requires strategies for proactively managing permits, setting service-level standards, establishing system boundaries, and collecting and sharing data. Panelists will explore related policy and management strategies and considerations for meeting some of the larger challenges, such as rebalancing (to meet supply with demand), retrieving abandoned bikes, and sidewalk parking congestion. Learn how dockless bike-share is leveraging the technology and planning approaches tested through existing bike-share system models, and modifying them to provide new solutions, from innovative payment options to price incentivizing and from GPS-tracking to system integration.
