WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

  • Formulate strategies to engage with communities in non-traditional planning contexts.
  • Conduct research valuable to planners that's specifically tailored to school classroom/teacher needs.
  • Learn how to collaborate with teachers and others in primary and secondary education when designing outreach and engagement tools or strategies.

MORE SESSION DETAILS

Explore innovative ways to engage with communities through collaboration with local schools. Moderators will lead a discussion detailing their use of the “Green Community Design Challenge” (GCDC) program as an outreach tool. This program prompts students to design a “green community” and provides planners with qualitative data on community design and surveys. The GCDC is a fully lesson-planned classroom program designed for teacher implementation. Local planners are primarily responsible for data collection and synthesis.
